Troubles with your Garbage Disposal?

Garbage disposals are very convenient when you want to dispose of comestible left overs and it reduces the amount of garbage you produce. It’s easy: All you need to do is to dump it down the sink. It’s very useful, when they work!  They can start giving you problems such as being humming loudly or making a noise and it usually can be fixed, but you have to be careful.

Garbage Disposal is Jammed!!!

Usually, what happens is that the garbage disposal gets jammed with food or other objects. You can hear it with the humming sound when you turn it on. Different items such as utensils, pits, plastic wrap, aluminum foil, etc. can get stuck inside. If you hear the humming sound, turn unit off right away and then unplug it from the wall socket. Then you can manually try to reach for the item.  If you can’t reach the item with your hand, you will have to open the garbage disposal from the bottom. Most disposers do have a small port. Use a ¼” Allen wrench and just shake or turn the disposer around trying to free up the item stocked between the blades. Take out anything stocked inside, then push on the reset button at the bottom. The Garbage Disposal Doesn’t Turn On

Another common problem is that there is no power reaching the disposer. You try to turn on the garbage disposal as usual and nothing happens. It is usually explained by a tripped circuit or a blown fuse.
