Believe it or not, your washing machine does get dirty and may start to produce some foul smells that cling to your clothing. Cleaning a washing machine is quite simple and should be done every month. Some newer machines might actually have a self-cleaning feature, like ovens. If not, fill the machine with hot water and add in 1 quart of chlorine bleach. Let the washer run through its longest cycle. Afterward, fill it with hot water again and add 1 quart of distilled white vinegar; let it run for its longest cycle.
Got pets? There is a good chance you’ll get a decent pet hair buildup in the washing machine. Clean out the machine’s lint trap; also let the machine air dry after a cycle and use a vacuum to fully clean it out. If you start to notice small brown spots on your clothing, there is a good chance it’s just rust coming from the machine itself. With a flashlight, check the washer basket for chips in the finish. Many machines have replaceable washer baskets. You may need the assistance of Whirlpool appliance repair though to correctly install it. But you’ll definitely save money if you can purchase the replacement part yourself.
Regularly cleaning the washing machine will keep it working like new and ward off unnecessary Whirlpool appliance repair.
